Objective
This course is designed to introduce participants to Value Stream Mapping in a hands-on manner. Participants will develop their ability to “see the flow” and design future state value streams. This can be done for manufacturing processes, but also any administrative or service function as well.

The workshop is designed for up to 12 people.

 

Duration
The workshop is 2 full days for a total of 16 hours

 

Pre-requisites
Participants should have completed a basic training course in Lean Manufacturing principles such as Lean 101 or equivalent.

Course Content
Participants will learn the basic techniques of creating a Value Stream Map. The students will practice on Industrial Solution’s case study exercise and then will map a real process within their own company. They will learn about the Product Family Matrix tool, how to convert inventory into time, and how to see their processes in a whole new light.

 

On day 2, the students will learn the methodologies for applying Lean tools to eliminate waste in the value stream. They will understand the difference between FIFO lanes and supermarkets, how to line balance and combine processes to dramatically reduce lead time and WIP.  The workshop concludes with the students drawing a future state map and developing  an action plan for achieving that future state for their company.
